The Via Claudia Augusta once began at the port of Altinum near Venice and led over the Reschen Pass, Landeck, Imst, and the Fern Pass onward to the Danube at Donauwörth.
Tipp des Autors: A short detour to the historic old town of Schongau is well worth it!
Wegbeschreibung: It remained one of the most important north-south connections even after the Romans. The associated opportunities for earnings, trade, and encounters with travelers from many countries shaped the people along this route. Different regions and cultures still meet here today, making a bike ride in the footsteps of the Romans so exciting.
Numerous attractions line up like shining pearls on a string: starting with the picturesque Donauwörth at the starting point of the route, with Augsburg, which dates back to the Romans, and the romantic Neuschwanstein Castle. In the mountains, at the gateway to Tyrol, the European Castle World Ehrenberg and the picturesque Fern Pass await in Reutte. In the wild romantic valley landscapes, you will find the Carnival House in Imst, the Tyrolean Water World in Zams, the Archaeological Museum in Fließ, ... before ascending over Finstermünz to the Reschen Pass. This centuries-old mountain pass road leads further to South Tyrol, past the idyllic Reschen Lake and down the southern side of the Alps to Merano and Bolzano.
From the historic city of Trento, it finally goes either to the former Roman port in Altino near Venice (more varied but with some hills, for which hopefully there will soon be a shuttle) or to Ostiglia on the Po. A bike-hiking route on a path once traveled by the Romans.
