The route connects the Fairtrade communities of Wolfratshausen and Seeshaupt and can be started either at the S-Bahn station in Wolfratshausen or the train station in Seeshaupt. It leads over bike paths and remote villages along the picturesque Loisach-Isar Canal heading south to the shores of Lake Starnberg and then up through forest and fields to Degerndorf, returning through the Loisach valley to Wolfratshausen.
The route is 49 km long and is a pleasure route both scenically and culinarily. Wonderful landscapes and a magnificent alpine panorama reward the cyclist. Various stops and shopping opportunities offer fair, organic, and/or regional specialties. In the spirit of sustainable enjoyment, a very special route for guests, locals, and excursionists.
Visit the various culinary offerings along the cycling route as a break and to recharge. Please pay attention to the respective opening hours.
Lake Starnberg tempts with a cooling dip, for example at the municipal car park in Seeshaupt next to the campsite on the edge of town, in St. Heinrich, or on the shore of the Ambach recreation area.
Shortly before Degerndorf, the route runs along the Kastler Art Mile. Here, 19 sculptures by the sculptor Hans Kastler (1931-2016) can be admired along the way. The figure of the gorilla in the foothills of the Alps is particularly impressive.
In Wolfratshausen, watch out for refill stations where you can refill your water bottle with fresh tap water free of charge.
The following shopping opportunities are reachable on the route:
• World shop in Wolfratshausen
• röstperle - Seeshaupt organic coffee
• Seeshaupt farm shop by the show garden
• Ludwehof, Degerndorf (farm shop: sale of dairy products and baked goods - always open/self-service)
On the trail of fair trade
We, the steering group of the Fairtrade town Wolfratshausen, would like to heartily recommend a very special route: The cycling route "fair, organic, regional"! It was created in the spirit of sustainable enjoyment in collaboration with the Fairtrade community Seeshaupt and the "One World Regional Promoter for Upper Bavaria South".
The 49-kilometer trip connects the Fairtrade communities of Wolfratshausen and Seeshaupt and leads over bike paths and remote villages. Initially along the picturesque Loisach-Isar Canal heading south to the shores of Lake Starnberg, then up through forest and fields to Degerndorf and back through the Loisach valley to Wolfratshausen.
Alternative stops and shopping opportunities off the mainstream make the route something very special. There is, for example, the Wolfratshausen world shop. Like a small treasure chest with products from all over the world, it invites browsing. Besides fair trade coffee, tea, and chocolate, there are beautifully handcrafted products made of glass, ceramics, paper, fabric, and leather. One kilometer further on, you pass the zero-waste shop with its 150 unpackaged products, delicious cake, and organic coffee "to go".
Culinary insider tips
Next, continue along the Loisach to the picturesque farm shop of the Pilch farmer in Eurasburg, a real insider tip! The range of dairy products and baked goods consists exclusively of organic-certified products from their own cultivation or from the region.
Passing the Beuerberg monastery, the route goes uphill and downhill to the Fairtrade community Seeshaupt. The large range of shops with fair, organic, and/or regional specialties invites you to a longer break. There is, for example, the sustainable organic coffee roastery "röstperle" and in the town center "Unsere Dorfwirtschaft," inviting you to modern Bavarian soul food with many regional ingredients.
Would you like some ice cream for dessert? We think "Allora Signora" has the finest and most sustainable ice cream at the lake.
Feast, marvel, pedal
Along the shores of Lake Starnberg, the return journey goes up through forest and fields towards Degerndorf. There, the Holzer family runs their farm shop at Ludwehof. A small self-service kiosk offers dairy products, baked goods, and homemade seasonal products.
With many new impressions and a full saddlebag, it goes steeply downhill via the small village of Achmühle back into the Loisach valley to Wolfratshausen. After this route, you will certainly have sore muscles—but you won’t have lost weight!
The Wolfratshausen Fairtrade steering group wishes you lots of fun, a safe journey, and good appetite!
