Located in the south of Bavaria, the Pfaffenwinkel region is well connected to the rest of Bavaria through a network of road and train links. The following section will help you to find your perfect way to travel to the Pfaffenwinkel.
Train
Train is generally the most comfortable way to get to the Pfaffenwinkel. There is a regular train service from Munich to Weilheim at least once an hour and it takes only 30 minutes. The “Pfaffenwinkel-Bahn” provides train services via Peißenberg, Hohenpeißenberg and Peiting to Schongau, whereas the “Kochelsee-Bahn” operates from Munich via Tutzing to Bernried, Seeshaupt, Iffeldorf and Penzberg.
Self-drive
The area is a leisurely 30-minutes- to one-hour drive from the gateway city Munich (Weilheim: 53 km, Schongau 85 km) and a 1-hour drive from Augsburg.
From northwestern direction: take the motorway A7 (Würzburg-Füssen) and exit in Kempten. Follow the main road B472 to Schongau. You can also take the A8 to Augsburg and then the main road B17 along the Romantic Raod via Landsberg to Schongau.
Weilheim, Peißenberg, Penzberg and the area south of lake Starnberg can be reached from the northern and southern direction via the motorway A 95 (Munich - Garmisch-Partenkirchen)
By Air
If you like to come by plane, you have the choice between Munich Airport and Allgäu Airport Memmingen. The distance between both airports and Weilheim is about 90 km.
